So many people are trying to stay entertained at home, as most of the countries are on lock-down. So if you are bored in front of your TV, it may be a good time to try a new approach. Immersing yourself in a new hobby can be good for mental health and reducing stress, and with most of us staying
at home all the time, it's never been more important to prioritize wellbeing.
Reading a book
Honestly, who can say they have had time to read a book? With having a busy schedule, our time is so precious these days, we never give ourselves time to sit and read a book. So pick up one of the books you've had laying around the house for years, make yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee, and start relaxing by reading a book. If you are not a fan of reading there are audiobooks online for free. Here are some links that you can check out, for some of them you'll have to subscribe and get 1 month free.
Skincare routine
It's a perfect time to give your skin a break from its daily makeup, pollution, and chemicals. Organize your skincare products and get yourself into a good, healthy skincare routine. Make sure you wash and clean your face before bed, although you haven't been out and you haven't got makeup on. Make a schedule of when should you do your weekly face scrub and body scrub, as now on lock-down every day is the same, we don't feel when is a weekday and when weekend.
It's time to wash and clean al your makeup brushes and your makeup containers. Also, very good idea is to try out a DIY face mask, there are plenty of recipes on the internet. Here are 8 Easy DIY Face Masks for Bright, Glowing Skin.
As we have many bananas in South Africa, my personal favorite is the one made with banans. I mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply to my face and neck. Then I let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe is with 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey (a natural acne remedy), and 1 medium banana.
Exercising at home
During the lockdown period, access to your regular gym facilities is prohibited, so what you can look into in the meantime is exercising at home. Try work-outs outside in the yard, or balcony for those who live in an apartment, and appreciate some fresh air as you work out. For those who are not a big fan of exercising, can try something different, like yoga. You don't have to stand on your head, just do some simple body stretching. Here is a video below if you want to do yoga, this video personally helped me a lot, it's very good for relaxation, especially during these stressful times. It is for complete beginners as the titles say, so anyone can enjoy it.
Organize your wardrobe
Most of us have at least one dress that we know we'll never wear again or a pair of jeans that just don't fit the way they used to. It's time to declutter your wardrobe and get rid of those sad pieces that no longer see the light of day. Either pass them onto friends and family, donate them to charity or at the very least, find your nearest clothing bank and recycle.
Learn a new language
It is so beneficial to know another language, but we always complained about not having enough time for it, so now we have. There are plenty of YouTube videos and online tutorials that can help you to learn a new language, or simply you can download the app Duolingo. Here is the link to download the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duolingo&hl=en_ZA
Delicious homemade croissants
The other day I got a recipe from my mom, and I made the softest croissants I have ever tried.
I am more than happy to share it here in my blog post, all you need is:
800gr flour
150gr cooking oil, or melted butter
200ml fresh milk
200 ml buttermilk
30 gr yeast
2 eggs
2gr salt
2gr sugar
Place the flour in a dish and add yeast, sugar, and salt. I used instant yeast so I didn't have to dissolve it before I add to the flour. In a separate dish mix the eggs with milk, buttermilk, and oil. Then slowly add the wet ingredients in the flour kneading it at the same time. Once the dough is not sticky to your fingers, cover it with cling wrap, and leave it to rest for 15-20min.
Then place the dough on a floured surface and divide it into two. From each dough take a small piece, make a small round dough and roll it out, then cut 3-4 lines, add some cheese if you like, and fold it together. Place each croissant on a previously greased baking tray. You can use butter or oil for greasing. Once you are done with all croissants, brushed them with egg yolk and a little bit of butter, if you wish you can sprinkle sesame seeds.
This is an old traditional Macedonian recipe.
I hope some of these ideas will keep you busy at this time, leave a comment below if you are planning to try some and let us know how you like it.
