If you’re delaying your next hair appointment because you’re a) waiting for January payroll and b) in need of some major hair inspo, consider yourself in luck. With payday right around the corner, we’ve got five haircuts to instantly update your look. And don’t panic, they’re totally wearable and seriously trending… From the modern shag that all the it-girls are wearing to the blunt cut that’s super easy to maintain, there’s a style here for everyone.
For an Effortless Look: The Modern Shag
Shaggy is THE haircut of 2020. It’s similar to the OG 70s style but with a sassy modern twist. Think shoulder-length locks, undone texture, lots of layers, and of course, the split curtain fringe. It’s effortless, chic, and a celeb fave – everyone from Selena Gomez to Miley Cyrus has been slaying the style. Probably our fave thing about the current hair trend is that it can work for anyone regardless of your face shape, length or hair texture.
Case in point: this shaggy style on Alanna Arrington created by @cashlawlesshair. Her natural curls help create that cool-girl texture without losing the classic shape on the shag.
For Minimal Upkeep: A Blunt Cut
The blunt bob had a major moment in 2019 and now we’re seeing the simple cut reworked with added length. It’s simple, it’s manageable, and it requires minimal upkeep, aka it’s the lazy girl’s dream. It’s also a lot cheaper to maintain as you don’t have to run back to the salon every six weeks. Another bonus? When you’re hair is cut to one length, it can help create the illusion of fuller, thicker hair.
Margot Robbie’s red carpet style looks so chic; demonstrating how versatile the blunt cut can be.
For Natural Texture: Rounded Fro
2020 is all about embracing your natural texture and the rounded fro is a perfect styling option. Plus, the cut will keep your curls juicy and bouncy, which is a must! As with any haircut, consider your face shape and where you’d typically part your hair. We’re obsessed with Yara Shahidi’s center-parted fro. Alternatively, a fro with fringe is another on-trend option and works really well with type 3 and 4 hair, as it helps frame the face.
If your hair naturally forms a rounded shape, here’s how to pick it out like a pro:
To create a fluffy, even fro, start by dividing your hair into four sections. Spray each section with moisture spray, then work a hydrating custard through your hair, detangling the strands with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. Start with the front section, working the hair forward as this will help maintain height and volume. Once it’s detangled, twist it loosely and tie it into a Bantu knot while you address the other sections. Follow the side sections and finish with the back.
Once all sections have been hydrated and detangled, fluff your hair out with your fingers to create volume, then pat it back down to create that round shape. If your fro is not standing up, spritz your strands with some water and pick it out with your comb.
